For time trial and triathlon, integration and adjustability often matter as much as outright frame aerodynamics. A highly shaped frame is only useful if you can sustain the position it enables. Look for adjustment that permits meaningful changes to pad height, reach and extension angle, alongside practical provision for nutrition, hydration and travel.
Track riders face a different set of priorities: direct power transfer, predictable handling at speed and the correct fit for repeated high-intensity efforts. In every discipline, the question remains the same: does this frame support the rider and the event it is intended for?
The specification is part of the frame decision
A frameset leaves room to choose components with purpose, but it also requires discipline. Bottom bracket standards, axle dimensions, disc rotor mounting, cable routing, electronic shifting requirements, seatpost design and tyre clearance can all affect cost and build options. Integrated cockpits may offer a clean aesthetic and aerodynamic benefit, yet can limit adjustment or make future changes more involved. A conventional arrangement may be the wiser choice for a rider still refining their position.
It is also worth allowing budget for the details that make a build dependable: correctly selected bearings, quality bar tape, suitable sealant, careful torque settings and a proper final set-up. These are not glamorous choices, but they contribute to a bike that stays quiet, reliable and enjoyable.
The value of a considered build process
