Professional cyclist, Amy Roberts to become a Redchilli Bikes Brand Ambassador….
Redchilli Bikes are delighted to welcome Amy Roberts as a Brand Ambassador. Amy is a former professional cyclist who, for 5 years raced for the all powerful Wiggle-Honda (of which later became Wiggle-High5) and has raced at the highest level all around the world.
Amy’s rise to the top of professional cycling is quite a story, and we also learned of her struggles during 2019/2020. However, Amy’s ambition and fire is burning once more – and this is why we have decided to work with Amy and, hopefully, help her back to the top level of women’s professional cycling.
This is what Amy told us:
“My name is Amy Roberts. I first got into cycling when I was about 14 years old. I started off in triathlon with my two younger sisters, going once a week to the local sessions and then racing on weekends. It was the coach at the triathlon club that said we should join the local cycling club to help for our triathlon. This club is now known as Towy Riders. It then just went from there, getting on the British squad which was the Talent team at the time and working my way up.”
“I represented Great Britain at World and European championships as a junior on the track and road and I then progressed to the senior academy programme.”
“In my first year as a senior, I joined Wiggle Honda, in what was their first year as a professional women’s cycling team. This was a great opportunity for me, getting to race with the best in the World, all over the World. I also went on to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, which I say was one of my highlights. I was part of Wiggle-Honda that later became Wiggle-High5 for 5 years.”
“In 2018 I joined a Dutch team, Parkhotel Valkenburg. I was excited for new opportunities and to see what the year would bring. I unfortunately ended up getting ill and after some time I found out it was mainly to do with chronic fatigue. It took some time for me to realise this and eventually took the decision to take a break. My body and mind needed it. I always knew I would get back on the bike eventually, but before I knew it 2 years had passed.”
“The first lockdown came and gave me the time to get back on the bike again and made me realise that I do really want to get back into racing. I am now slowly getting back into things and really excited to be getting back into training and looking forward to racing again. I’m mindful of what I need to do and how I need to manage things in order to get back to the top.”
“My ambitions are to be back racing Internationally. I hope to represent Wales again in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and this will be a big aim of mine for the near future. I’m excited to hopefully get racing again this season and see where things are at.”
“I am super excited to be having the chance to ride and represent a British brand, Redchilli bikes. I’m really thankful that they are giving me this chance and are helping me reach my goals.”
Redchilli Bikes owner, David Darby had this to say:
“To have a rider of Amy’s calibre onboard as a brand ambassador is fantastic news. I look forward to working with Amy and no doubt see her rise once more to the highest level of professional cycling. She is an amazing talent on the bike and a true inspiration. It is also testament to the quality of our bikes for Amy to choose to work with Redchilli. Yes, we may be a small, British Brand, but like Amy, we have ambitions too..!! Amy will soon be riding, and of course racing, our new Redchilli WR1 “Passista” aero race bike; a bike that has been designed for the female rider. I can’t wait to see Amy back on the Podium.”
